Happiest moments: a stroll through the large Provencal market on Tuesday mornings. The weekly market, with the colors and scents of the Midi, welcomes up to 450 stallholders during the summer months and spreads out all over the town center.
Description
Fruit and vegetable market, fresh and local produce, craft market, clothing, second-hand goods, crockery, gifts... The Vaison-la-Romaine market is held every Tuesday morning from 7:30 a.m. in the town's main squares and streets, in a warm, Provencal atmosphere.
A long-standing tradition, it dates back to 1483, when a bull from Pope Sixtus IV authorized Vaison to open a market.
In 1532, Pope Clement VII confirmed this decision and specified the day: Tuesday. At the time, the market was held in the upper town on the square known as the "old market".
Today, it's one of the biggest and most colorful in the region.
And on the Place François Cevert, it also features a market reserved exclusively for small local producers.
