Description

The village of Rousset-les-Vignes has its origins in the foundation of a priory and the installation of a 14th-15th century feudal castle overlooking the village to the east.
Perched against the mountain, it was one of the fortified villages that, from Le Pègue to Venterol, watched over the Valréas plain and the old piedmont road. The whole was protected by a rampart flanked by semi-circular towers, some of which are still standing today.
The fortified church, dating back to the 12th century, stands on a quiet square. Opposite, an altered 10th-century Cluniac priory with a remarkable Renaissance façade. 14th-century castle: towers, Gothic portal, spiral staircase. Altered Romanesque church.
Chapelle de Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir or de Bois-vert, or de Beauvert is located on a hilltop outside the village. Its date of construction is unknown, but the Notre-Dame-de-Bellevue transhumance trail is mentioned in 1316. A wooden statue of a beautiful Virgin Mary once stood here. It has been restored and is now housed in the parish church of Saint-Mayeul.
