The public washhouse was built in 1840 in the neoclassical style as part of the development and embellishment work undertaken by F.-A. Ducros, the mayor of the time. Often compared to the Temple de l'Amour at the Petit Trianon in Versailles.

The public washhouse was built in 1840 in the neoclassical style as part of the development and embellishment work undertaken by F.-A. Ducros, the mayor of the time. Often compared to the Temple of Love at Versailles' Petit Trianon
Originally uncovered, a dome was added to protect the washerwomen from the elements.
A fresco in tribute to the washerwomen will be painted under the interior dome in September 2021 by artist Charley Case.
