Fontaine et statue Sévigné

The first public fountain was built on the former Place de l'horloge in 1840. In 1857, a bronze statue of the Marquise de Sévigné was added, following a public subscription. She gave her name to the square.

Description

The fountain is part of the beautification and development work undertaken by Mayor François - Auguste Ducros. The bronze statue was made by Frère Rocher of Avignon. The marquise is shown in an armchair, holding a pen and paper... she is probably writing a letter to her daughter or her cousin Bussy...
