Colonzelle

Colonzelle was originally a monastic village built around a priory. St Pierre's chapel has a Norman architecture.. A pleasant path will lead you from the river embankment, through the undergrowth to Margerie hamlet.

Description

The settlement of Colonzelle dates back to ancient times. Archaeological remains from this period, notably sarcophagi, have been found in the Chapelle Saint-Pierre cemetery.
An 11th-century Cluniac priory was undoubtedly responsible for the formation of the village of Colonzelle and the construction of the chapel in the early 12th century.
This chapel, "Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens" in the Margerie countryside, is of public interest from an art-historical point of view, thanks to its homogeneous Romanesque character and the quality of the 14th-century painted decoration in the choir.
